Orthopedic Doctor: Chondromalacia Patella Can Affect the Young and Fit

When people think of an orthopedic doctor, they immediately conjure up the image of a hunched elderly having difficulty walking. The idea of health has always been associated with age— blurry eyesight, heart disease, hair loss, and joint pains have always been associated with the elderlies. However, while it is true that with age comes certain health issues, to conclude that health concerns only comes with old age is false. One good example is chondromalacia patella, also known as runner’s knees, which affects the young adults more than any age group.

Many people think that adolescence is the peak of body conditioning, and that those around this age are not at risk as long as they maintain regular exercise. Chondromalacia Patella, however, is one condition that affects adolescents more than adults. This is caused by an excessive use and tear in cartilage under the kneecap.
